Subject: Pgymy Sperm Whale Beaches Self in Boca Raton
February 28, 2003 - Boca Raton, FL
An adult pygmy sperm whale that beached itself in Boca Raton this past Friday has died.
The whale, nicknamed "Froggy", seemed to be listless and disoriented upon being found bobbing the intracoastal
waterway. Froggy was taken to a local aquarium, where lifesaving measures including bottle feeding with
imported grain beverages and constant attention were provided. A necropsy shows severe liver damage and
enlarged genitals, but no bacteria or viral source of disease.
Donations for supporting these expensive but futile life saving efforts are accepted by the acquarium.
