BLACKOUT
Found myself in Manhattan when the blackout hit. I was in a bar (surprise)
with a couple of IBM guys. We had just finished a meeting and were de-briefing
over beers. We were the only ones in the bar. When the power went out it took
about 15 minutes for the buildings to empty all humans onto the streets. Then
within 10 more minutes they all headed for the bars -- our little place was
suddenly packed! Anyway, we spent the rest of the evening sitting on steps
just like these people, just watching all the humanity. People were just great --
civilians were directing traffic, and I didn't see a single incident of anger,
not even impatience or irritation among the hordes -- most people were smiling!
